2024 Fall Concert

Get ready to step into a world of music, nostalgia and holiday cheer! The Beaverton Community Band invites you to our upcoming Music from Stage, Screen & Page (and December Holidays too!) on December 15th, 2024. We’ve prepared an enchanting lineup that brings together timeless classics, cinematic themes, and toe-tapping jazz to warm your holiday season.

We will also be accompanied by Dr. Lisa Neher, Mezzosoprano! Dr. Neher, praised for her “full and rich” voice (OR ArtsWatch), has performed with groups like Third Angle New Music, Experiments in Opera, and the Portland Opera Chorus. A “visionary composer” (Willamette Week), she creates works inspired by the climate crisis, the tender love of family and friends, and the eerie mystery of deep ocean life. Her works have been commissioned and performed by NATS, Cincinnati Song Initiative, Third Angle New Music, and others. She is President of New Wave Opera. www.lisanehermusic.com

Additionally, please join us for our 2nd annual Silent Auction happening before the concert and during intermission! Here’s a sneak peek at our musical journey:

The March from “1941”: Kick off the night with John Williams’ energetic, zany patriotic march from Steven Spielberg’s comedy, “1941”. Feel the excitement as you tap along to this lively score.

The Lord of the Rings (excerpts from Symphony No. 1): Journey through Middle-earth with Johan de Meij’s symphonic suite, by Tolkien’s trilogy. Experience the triumph of good and evil through powerful and mesmerizing music.

Selections from Ain’t Misbehavin’: Ain’t Misbehavin’ pays homage to the influential jazz pianist Thomas “Fats” Waller and the Harlem Renaissance. Set in the 1920s and ’30s, this medley transports listeners to Black Manhattan nightclubs, where swing was fresh and the nightlife was lively

Selections from CHICAGO: Set in the roaring twenties, the music from Chicago transports audiences to the lively, jazz-infused world of gangster-era Chicago. With bold brass, syncopated rhythms, and sultry melodies, this music captures the drama, excitement, and edge of the Jazz Age. This performance features soloist Lisa Neher, whose powerful vocals bring to life the glitz and glamor of one of America’s most iconic musical eras.

Arbutus Dance: This joyous, upbeat piece celebrates nature’s resilience and is said to have been created during a road trip taken by the composer and Mike Keddy. Throughout this musical journey, imagine the Arbutus tree and its history alongside the evolution and demise of humanity.

A Muppets Christmas Carol Overture: Relive the holiday spirit with the whole Muppets gang in this nostalgic overture from a beloved classic. Bring the family and sing along with Kermit, Ms. Piggy, and the whole crew.

Selections from “Home Alone”: Enjoy heartwarming melodies from this beloved holiday film, including “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Star of Bethlehem,” guaranteed to evoke the magic of Christmas.

Selections from BrigadoonBrigadoon transports audiences to a mystical Scottish village that appears only once every century. When an American tourist falls in love with a local resident, he faces a fateful choice that could make the village vanish forever.

White Christmas: Irving Berlin’s beloved White Christmas has become a holiday classic, evoking the warmth and nostalgia of the season. With soloist Lisa Neher leading, this timeless tune invites everyone to sing along and celebrate the magic of a “merry and bright” holiday.
